I’ve been on a mini puppy chow kick lately – my kids love it, the hubs love it, it’s perfect to ship to the nieces and nephews, so easy to make, and well it’s just flipping yummy! However, what keeps fueling my need for puppy chow is all the new flavors of candy melts “aka chocolate wafers”. It use to be they just came in colors but now they have flavors as well! I love adding flavored chocolate to well….everything!
I found these new Wilton Red Velvet Candy Melts at the same time I found the Gingerbread Candy Melts and I knew they both must be turned into puppy chow! It’s just toooo easy and yummy! Each time I make a new batch people ask, how did you get your puppy chow to taste like that (lol) you should see the look of confusion when I explain the chocolate is already flavored. Yes, it’s really that easy!
Here’s what you will need:
5 Cups Chex Cereal
1 Bag Wilton’s Red Velvet Candy Melts
1 1/2 Cups Powdered Sugar
Heart Sprinkles (Optional)
Step 1: In a large mixing bowl measure out 5 cups of Chex cereal.
Step 2: Melt Red Velvet candy melts, and pour over cereal. Using a spatula gently stir until all the cereal is covered in chocolate.
Step 3: Once all the cereal is coated use spatula to pour into a second large mixing bowl OR large ziplock bag. Add in 1.5 cups of powdered sugar and shake or stir until completely covered. A large tupperware bowl with a lid works really nice here!
Step 4: Add in sprinkles if you would like!
If your are looking for even more puppy chow flavors check out this Pumpkin Puppy Chow or this Gingerbread Puppy Chow made just as easy!
I still have several more puppy chows I’d love to try out, are you guys ready for more?!

Such a pretty display! Love the heart-shaped bowl paired with the straws and sprinkles!
Awesome! Great work!
I recently found your blog and I’m having fun looking around. But I just have to respectfully disagree on one point. There is NO WAY those heart sprinkles are optional. They are absolutely necessary! :) I’m thinking this will be a perfect treat to send to my daughter in college. Thanks for the darling idea!
You’re very welcome…and you’re right…they aren’t really an option! <3
