Fall Trail Mix {with FREE printable}

IMG_7303

Did you know today is national trail mix day? Really, I wouldn’t make these things up :). So while I promised I wouldn’t start on fall posts until September, I couldn’t just not celebrate trail mix day what kind of monster would I be? Or maybe I already had these done and got lucky…eh you chose. Plus September 1st is just hours away and the weather outside is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l!

So the kids and I decided to make some trail mix to kick off the fall. This is something we do for about every holiday and season. My oldest likes to pick out the different elements and the littles like to throw it all in and do the mixing, fun for all. I love how many of falls best flavors are captured in this  mix…and apparently the kids did too because it was gone in a snap. Here are the items we mixed in:

Caramel Bits
Fall Candy Corn Peanuts
Brown Sugar Quaker Squares
Fall M&M’s
Dehydrated Apples
Peanut Butter Chip
Life Cereal

I couldn’t help but think this would be so much fun to share! I bagged it up in clear pretzel favor bags (found at Wal-Mart) and made some cute printable tags to go with. These would be really great to take to share at gatherings, hand out at kids activities, school snacks, packed in lunches, or to share with co-workers.

  1. Wow! Your pictures look great, and thank you for the free printables!

  2. So cute! And looks like a great taste combo! Can’t wait to try it!

  3. These are so cute! Love this idea…thanks for sharing!

  4. This is so “sweet” of you to NOT hoard the idea and label printable. I can’t wait to make these for my girlfriends and kids’ teachers.

  5. So cute! Thank you for sharing. :)

  6. Can anyone please tell me (a beginner) how to print the page with the adorable tags to be cut out? If I increase the size they disappear because the page makes it look like it only takes up about 1/5th of the whole page. Thanks for any directions.

    • Hello Annabelle! When you click on the above image it will bring up a google documents page showing the printable tags. On the left hand side click file and download. Once you download it should be pulled up in it’s own screen and ready to print. Let me know if you can’t get it :)

  7. Where can I find the caramel bits? They sound like a great addition.

    • Hey Anna_S! The caramel bits can be found in the baking aisle around the chocolate chips and melting chocolate. They are pretty neat, much easier to use and eat then the caramel wrapped squares.

  8. How much of each ingredient do you put in? I found the caramel bits yesterday soooo good, I need to hurry and make it before I eat all of them. Thanks for sharing.

    • I’m sry I dont’ have an exact amount! It really depends on how much of the trail mix you are wanting and what flavors you want to stand out. I just kind of eye ball it as the kids are helping pour stuff in! We used about half a box of each cereal and then just added in the other stuff until it just looked about right. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help here!

    • See September 24th post from anonymous (the one who made them for teacher treats from PTA. That should help you:)

  9. I think these are the best thing I’ve seen in a long time. I’m going to make some of these for Halloween for my grandchildren and some of their friends. Thanks for sharing your talent and recipe (how to and what’s in the bag)with all of us. And Happy Fall & Halloween to you and yours. P.S. I know you can get the carmel bits from King Arthur Flour and M & M’s in quantity from Nuts and More. Hope this helps some of you that would like to make this trail mix.

  10. i love these and tysm for cute tags. you’ve helped make my fall happy, y’all! jane in texas

  11. Hi there, I am having a HARD time finding the bags do you have any suggestions?

  12. I found pretzel bags at Michael’s near the wedding department.

  13. I made these for teacher treats from our PTA. I was able to fill 70 of the pretzel bags by using the following amounts:

2 boxes Quaker Oat squares cereal (14.5 oz)
1 1/2 boxes Life Cereal (21 oz size)
    3 bags of M & M’s (12 ounce size)
2 bags of peanut butter chips (10 ounce size)
3 bags of candy corn (12 ounce size)
3 bags dried apples (4.5 oz bags)
2 bags caramel bits ( 8 ounce size)
    1 1/2 lbs. peanuts

  14. I just made this and it looks excellent and it’s sooooo tasty!! I don’t have the dried apples though. What did you use for those and where do you get them? I haven’t found those yet. Thank you so much for sharing! What a great idea and I love the printable too! Such a timesaver for me!! Thank you!!

  15. How cute! I love this idea! :D

  16. Thank you so very much for sharing this. By changing the color of the M&M and substituting the candy corn, this basic recipe can be used for Christmas, Easter, etc, etc. So happy I found this!!!!!

Thanks for the idea! Do you have the document where you can edit the text? I’d love to use for a baby shower. Also, where did you get the adorable yarn? Love this idea.

My email is jenny@catcon.com if you don’t mind sharing the printable :)

    Thanks,
    Jenny

    • It’s available at any Micheal’s store by the jewelry section.

    • Hey Jenny! Unfortunately I do not have the file available to edit the text. I’m currently in the process of switching my photo editing software and I have currently misplaced some original files. Sry! -Toni

  19. Has anyone found where to get the Fall M&Ms?

    • Hello Laura! The M&M’s can be found at almost any grocery store. I saw this at Wal-Mart in the regular candy aisle as well as the seasonal candy aisle just the other day. Hope that helps! :) -Toni

    • Thanks Toni, I looked everywhere around me and no stores had them. I just bought a large bag of the original ones, then picked out the colors I wanted! More expensive but it worked!

  20. So cute! I just made up some “thank you” bags for our volunteer team! The post goes live tomorrow!

  21. Is anyone else having trouble printing these (Happy Fall Y’all) printables? When I print them they are probably the size of a dime. I like Bake.Make Celebrate on facebook.Do you have to belong to their blog to print something out?Someone please help. I love these.

    • Hey there! Most people seem to be printing just fine but I have had a few having problems. You should be able to click, download and save then print. Did you by chance just click and save the photo…or is your printer setting percentage off? If you would like I can email you a copy directly just send me your email. :) -Toni

  22. Hi! I was wondering what kind of peanuts did you use, cocktail peanuts? Thank you :)

    • The bags are made by Wilton, they are pretzel rod bags and can be found at Wal-Mart or most stores that carry Wilton. :)
